- This position will provide and coordinate all required medical care and coverage for the sports of Track & Field, including but not limited to; emergency medical planning and care, acute injury evaluation and treatment, short and long term rehabilitation program creation and implementation, physician medical referrals, injury prevention screening, and physiological recovery strategies.
- This position will share oversight of two (2) Intern assistant athletic trainers with the Cross Country/Distance staff athletic trainer.
- They will also oversee undergraduate sports medicine student assistants for Track and Field, and fulfill administrative duties assigned by the Sr Assoc AD of Sports Medicine & Sports Performance or the Assoc Director of Sports Medicine / East Athletic Training room manager.
- Manage all aspects of daily medical needs of the Track & Field program, including coverage of strength and conditioning sessions, practices, home and away competitions, and attendance at rehabilitation and treatment sessions and medical appointments of student-athletes as required.
- Communicate directly with coaches for the Track & Field program regarding all injuries and illnesses of student-athletes, as well as status of ongoing rehabilitation and treatments, medical appointments, and participation status for workouts/practices/competitions.
- Communicate directly with Track & Field Strength and Conditioning coach regarding all physical restrictions due to injury or illness of student-athletes.
- Communicate to Assoc AD of Sports Medicine, Assoc Director of Sports Medicine/East Athletic Training Room Manager, and Head Team Physician major medical issues of student-athletes such as Emergency Department transportation, hospitalizations, surgeries, and other significant issues.
- Work closely with the staff athletic trainer for Cross Country/Distance with shared responsibility to train, supervise, and schedule two (2) intern assistant athletic trainers for Track & Field & Cross Country as well as athletic training student assistants assigned to work with the Track & Field.
- Administrative duties: Duties as assigned by the East Athletic Training Room Manager/Assoc Director of Sports Medicine and/or the Associate AD of Sports Medicine.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree (in Athletic Training or a related field) is required; Master's Degree (in Athletic Training or a related field) is required.
- Current CPR/AED certification, NATABOC athletic training certification, eligible for AT license in TN is required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as staff member on collegiate or professional sports medicine department.
- Graduate assistant athletic training experience with an NCAA FBS program preferred.
- Post-graduate Intern experience working as a certified athletic trainer with either NCAA FBS program or professional sports organization preferred.
- Experience working directly with, or participating in, the sport of collegiate, Olympic, or professional Track & Field preferred.
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to work effectively as a member of the Sports Medicine Team.
- Advanced level of athletic training knowledge and skills in evaluation of injuries and illnesses, treatment planning and implementation, rehabilitation program design for major time loss injuries.
- Knowledge of emergency medical planning and procedures.
- Advanced skills in first aid and life saving techniques including use of AED's and CPR.
- Ability to use electronic medical record keeping for documentation of medical interventions.
- Knowledge of advanced recovery and/or injury prevention screening techniques.
- Leadership skills to mentor and educate staff athletic trainers, grad assistant and intern athletic trainers, and student assistants (preferred).
