The purpose of this position is to serve as the Youth Career Coach for ages 18-24. The Youth Career Coach provides individualized intake and case management services for the Youth program. Their responsibilities include providing individual guidance to assist them with overcoming barriers preventing them from obtaining competitive employment. They will interact with the youth as needed, to encourage healthy, adaptive behavior, establish clear expectations, set, and enforce consequences for disruptive behavior, assist with the instruction of youth on daily living skills and work readiness subjects. The Youth Career Coach will act as a positive role model. In addition, the Youth Career Coach will work closely and interactively with the Program Support Specialist to greet the public upon visiting the Career Center, route calls and providing general office support.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsibilities:

Customer Service

  • Answer general questions from customers utilizing or interested in utilizing Career Centers funded programing.

  • Determine and communicate eligibility for program services including the conducting the orientation of services to potential participants.

  • Conduct individual and group intakes, make assessments based on information gathered during intake, and complete required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Ensure participants meet all eligibility requirements and ensure all documents have the proper signatures while maintaining the highest level of customer service.

  • Prepare files for Manager review.

  • Prepare and send intake information to the Career Center Manager for enrollment.

  • Provide assistance to job seekers with completing paper/online job applications.
  • Provide an overview of career enhancement tools available in Career Connections.
  • Assist job seekers with obtaining pre-employment documents (i.e., Sheriff's cards, Health cards) as needed.

  • Effectively communicate the enrollment, job search and job placement process.

  • Handle external communication with local employers through phone, email, etc.
  • Collect data regarding status of employment and educational status as well as updating necessary spreadsheets and data bases.

  • Contact scheduled participants through correspondence or by telephone meeting all scheduled deadlines per Grant.

  • Assist in Career Centers as the receptionist daily or when receptionist is out sick or on vacation.

  • Handle internal communication with the Career Connections Director and the Senior VIP and Career Center Manager.

  • Represent Goodwill at Job Fairs and other special events.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Program Support



  • Maintain complete and accurate case notes, employment plans, records, and files.

  • Enter and process information retained in the program database.
  • Maintain customer sign in/out log, determine eligibility, and collect pre-enrollment eligibility documents.

  • Assist the Career Center Manager with file review and documentation requests as needed.

  • Provide supportive follow up services to participants and jobseekers as determined by eligibility.
  • Assure compliance with security access procedures in Career Centers, maintaining participant information confidentiality.

  • Perform miscellaneous office support tasks including, but not limited to, file review and event support including hiring event and community outreach activities.

  • Perform filing, faxing, word processing, data entry, photocopying, and other tasks as assigned including intake and follow-up documentation needs.
  • Actively supervise and interact with individuals or groups of youths.

  • Facilitate workshops and activities as needed.

  • Prepare weekly qualitative and quantitative productivity reports.

  • Meet set enrollment and credentialing goals as stated per Grant.

  • Participate in departmental and agency meetings.

  • Maintain office equipment and conduct troubleshooting.
  • Ensure proper levels of office supplies.

  • Participate in outreach activities during regular business hours, some evenings, and occasional weekends.


Employment and Educational Assistance



  • Gather and share information about the local job market.

  • Provide educational, employment and career counseling to assist participants in developing an individual Service Strategy that outlines their educational or employment action plan; identify appropriate short and long term employment objectives; map out strategies for reaching educational/employment objectives; provide corresponding job development; and support the participant throughout the program.

  • Provide job readiness and soft skills training in an individual or group setting (i.e., resume development, cover letter writing, interviewing skills and techniques, networking, life skills, etc.).

  • Assist job seekers with completing paper and online job applications.

  • Develop job leads and refer job seekers to local employers.
  • Help participants to obtain pre-employment documents (i.e., work permits, work cards, sheriff's cards, health cards).

  • Follow-up with participants to determine their status and to see how we can continue to support them after exiting the program.

  • Follow-up with employers concerning referrals to determine placements.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:



  • Prefer a dynamic enthusiastic person with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, patience, diplomacy, and high level of customer service skills required.
  • Minimum two years of demonstrated experience in employment counseling, career counseling, job development and placement. Experience working with persons who have barriers to employment from various socio-economic, professional, and ethnic backgrounds preferred. Barriers to employment may include having low income, limited language skills, limited education, and felonies.
  • Bachelor of Arts degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and ability/willingness to work with economically and culturally diverse clientele required.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team with ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and outstanding follow-up skills required.

  • Familiarity with Las Vegas valley labor market, business community, human services, and a working knowledge of disability-related issues.

  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills. Excellent time management skills and ability to work under pressure.

  • Solid computer skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Email, and Internet.

  • Must possess a current driver's license and be fully insured according to Nevada law and Goodwill of Southern Nevada's insurance coverage policy.

  • Must have a personal vehicle.
  • Provide proof of current CPR & First Aid Certification.

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
