Position summary statement:

The Manager of Safety, Environmental & Health is responsible for execution of assigned site(s) safety, environmental, and health programs at multiple HIM locations. This position provides technical expertise, support, and direction of programs to supervise safety, environmental and health aspects in accordance with federal, state, local, corporate and site policies, procedures, and programs. This position works directly with respective federal, state, and local agencies to develop, accommodate, and ensure compliance with all environmentally related permits and provide vital and timely communications as well as key interface regarding site inspections. The position will arrange and handle contracts with all third-party contractors providing services regarding work associated with respective EHS facilities. This position as directed, will supervise any Safety Specialist(s) as well as other employees related to EHS awareness and their responsibilities. The position will be required to get along with colleagues in Technical Operations, Engineering, Production Operations, Maintenance, GSS, and Quality Assurance to evaluate and upgrade safety and environmental equipment/systems to achieve enhanced compliance.

Detailed responsibilities/duties:

  • Maintain EHS business operations, procedures, training, and development for the department of Safety Environmental and Health for any company locations assigned to the manager, which will require interaction with key personnel throughout the facility.
  • Work with Human Resources, management and supervisors in investigating accidents and worker compensation claims to develop measures in preventing recurrences.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the site specific, alarm activations, emergency response services, environmental and industrial accidents.
  • Assist in the assessment and implementation of loss prevention strategies. Included are performing accident and incident investigations figuring out root causes.
  • Develop, implement, and assist with any Environmental, Health and Safety Programs as directed.
  • Perform ongoing hazard/risk analysis and accident investigations and work with Corporate Workers Compensation (WC) to ensure accuracy of reporting.
  • Support Management in developing, evaluating, and improving safe work practices on conditions throughout the respective assigned site(s).
  • Perform new hire employee (NHO) safety and environmental orientation to ensure the integrity of the plant operations from a safety and health perspective.
  • Participate in company site and department audits and prepare technical reports as required to satisfy regulatory and corporate requirements related to safety and environmental issues. Conduct and/or coordinate facility inspections to identify and correct known safety hazards.
  • Work with the federal, state, and local, environmental compliance agencies such as OSHA, EPA, etc. to ensure that all safety, health, and environmental requirements are compliant from a site perspective.
  • Responsible for accurate identification and notification of spills and leaks of hazardous substances stored or used in process to assure compliance with regulations.
  • Handle the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) program and ensure employees assigned to work with hazardous wastes are trained and qualified in accurate management and handling practices.
  • Assist management to include, but not limited to, the formulation and documentation of EHS related policies, procedures, forms, and SOP’s.
  • Figure out what PPE is required for the respective facility(s), and to whom it is applicable to. Conduct any employee fittings of PPE if required.
  • Coordinate the creation and training of site Safety Committees and First Responders.

Management responsibilities:

  • Supervise EHS employee(s) assigned to them at any respective company locations as directed.
  • Manage any third-party contractors associated with facility(s) related to EHS.
  • Supervise and coordinate any work associated with procuring and maintaining ISO 45001 standards and certifications at respective Herbalife facility(s) as required.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 logs for respective facility(s) as required.

Required qualifications:

Skills:

  • Project management skills will be required to properly control the multiplicity of projects being handled at any one time, and to ensure that all client relationships are kept informed.

  • Requires skills in computer applications and systems.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities under minimal direction.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels with sensitivity to cultural diversity.
  • Ability to function as an effective team member.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of safety, environmental and health experience in support of a facility, including hazardous waste.
  • 3-5 years previous experience supervising direct reports, internal and or external
  • Experience handling multiple projects and duties as well as following and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, safety, workers' compensation, and OSHA practices.
  • A consistent track record of establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with internal customers, vendors, and contractors/consultants.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree. May consider candidate with 4 additional years of relevant professional experience in lieu of degree.
  • OSHA 10 - 30 hours training certifications
  • OSHA 501 & 511 training certification (OSHA Authorized Trainer)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree or two-year associate degree and or related equivalent experience.
  • MESH (Manager Environmental Safety & Health) Certification.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional).
  • A proven understanding of GMPs and health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to manufacturing facilities.
  • Ability to make and handle contractual agreements.
