Job Description: Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomist

We are currently seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. As a Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in collecting blood specimens from patients, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established protocols. Responsibilities:

1. Blood Collection: Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from patients of all ages, following established procedures and safety protocols. Use proper techniques to ensure the integrity of the specimen and minimize patient discomfort.

2. Specimen Processing: Label and prepare blood specimens for analysis, ensuring accurate identification and documentation. Follow laboratory protocols for specimen handling, storage, and transportation to maintain sample integrity and traceability.

3. Patient Interaction: Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner, explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and providing emotional support as needed. Maintain patient confidentiality and respect patient rights and dignity at all times.

4. Quality Assurance: Adhere to quality assurance and quality control measures in specimen collection and processing. Monitor equipment functionality, perform maintenance checks, and report any issues or deviations to laboratory supervisors.

5. Documentation: Document all phlebotomy procedures, including patient demographics, specimen collection details, and any relevant information, accurately and legibly. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

7. Continuing Education: Stay current with best practices, guidelines, and regulations related to phlebotomy and laboratory testing. Participate in training programs, continuing education activities, and proficiency testing to maintain competency and enhance skills.

Requirements:

1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a phlebotomy training program or certification from an accredited institution preferred.

2. Certification: Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) preferred but not required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required depending on the setting.

3. Experience: Previous experience in phlebotomy or specimen collection preferred but not required for entry-level positions. On-the-job training may be provided.

4. Technical Skills: Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques. Familiarity with laboratory equipment and procedures for specimen handling and processing.
