The RGS CAD Training/Support role will be responsible to support the development of RGS staff, day-to-day training, and staff support in the use of CAD software and as designers, plan quality assurance reviews and developing the skills of CAD users withing the organization. This role will also have longer range visioning responsibilities and assessment of potential new CAD uses and techniques for the continual improvement in RGS s strategic use of CAD and other design software. This person establishes company standards for CAD software, techniques, and tools to prepare technical drawings. The CAD Training/Support individual must also maintain a strong understanding of the design tools and how they can and should be applied to RGS projects in order to support the training and skill development of RGS staff.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide CAD Training, on-boarding of new staff, and on-going daily CAD support as the first point of contact for questions;
  • Oversee and complete CAD checks, reviewing files for:
  • Adherence to RGS standards;
  • Geometry checks (alignments, offsets, parallel lines, etc.);
  • Quality control, and a baseline for understanding necessary training;
  • Participate with/lead monthly CAD committee meetings;
  • Guide and develop (with assistance from IT Manager and CAD committee) monthly CAD training;
  • Work with IT Manager to track staff skill levels in the use of CAD software, and to develop individual training for ongoing skill development;
  • Assist IT Manager in evaluation and deployment of CAD software upgrades, and other design software;
  • Trouble shooting CAD problems and challenges;
  • Develop tools to aid others in the efficient use of CAD software ( how to sheets and video tutorials);
  • Assist Client Managers and Project Managers with Project QA/QC reviews, specifically focused on plan legibility, plan quality, and design (where appropriate);
  • Assist IT Manager in exploring alternate design software and or workflows for the improvement of the RGS design process. This effort is intended to be tied to larger RGS initiatives such as exploring how software could enhance the RGS design process or improve the communication of ideas with clients;
  • Provide project design support on an as-needed, task-by-task basis, noting that typically training and QA/QC reviews will take priority. Remaining involved in project work will allow exposure to how other teams are working and will help the individual maintain project design skills and CAD skills. This support could include specific project tasks, up front sketch planning, support of Principal project efforts, etc.
  • Interact with external Autodesk support resources, sub-consultants engaged to provide technical expertise and/ or peer groups focused on software optimization and problem solving.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor s degree in Landscape Architecture or Civil Engineering (degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 5-10 years on the job AutoCAD experience
  • Advanced experience and competence in all CAD-related software
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D Training Certification (preferred)

Position Details

Salary commensurate with experience.

40 hours per week

Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, dependent upon project work.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Occasional project site visits and exposure to weather.

Ability to travel to regional office locations using personal vehicle for transportation.
