Job Description

We are seeking a natural leader to join our team as the Data Science Lead. This individual will be responsible for understanding the vision of our Chief Data Officer and putting it into action to deliver value to users through the application of data science to Govini's unique assets.

Your role as the Data Science Lead will be primarily focused on managing the execution and timely completion of projects related to large data deployments. You will be the quarterback of the Data Science team, ensuring your team is designing and implementing cutting-edge, scalable statistical systems based on their research. You will have the opportunity to expand and grow data-driven research across Govini, and lead new areas to apply advanced analytics to drive business results.

As the team lead, you must be a data nerd with a strong understanding of the various fundamentals of data science and analysis, and know how to bring data to life. You must be passionate about the development of your team and driving Govini's data services further. This is a Full time team member position, working onsite in our Pittsburgh, PA office.

Scope of Responsibilities

Collaborate with key stakeholders, such as the Chief Data Officer, to understand Govini's current data challenges. Report to senior leaders on project status, risks and roadblocks the Data Science team experiences

Directly manage a team of Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and other key data-related roles. Responsible for mentorship, professional development, recruitment activities and other day-to-day management tasks

Embrace and promote teamwork within the Data Science team, as well as cross-functionally. Cultivate and promote individual accountability, diversity and inclusion

Understand the unique skills of the Data Science team to appropriately staff them to current projects to meet key business objectives

Partner with internal Govini analysts and external client teams to seek out the best solutions regarding data-driven problem solving

Apply advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to build, maintain, and improve on multiple Real Time decision systems

Make strategic recommendations on data collection, integration and retention requirements, incorporating business requirements and knowledge of data industry best practices

Model and frame business scenarios that are meaningful and which impact critical processes and decisions; transform, standardize, and integrate datasets for client use cases

Participate in end-to-end software development, on an agile team in a scrum process, collaborating closely with fellow software, machine learning, data and QA engineers

Qualifications

Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen

Required Skills

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field; Master's or PHD preferred

Minimum 7 years hands on data science experience

Previous experience managing a Data Science team

Deep experience with Python, R, Julia or other statistical programming languages

Familiarity with Git source control management

Proven ability to develop solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over large datasets

Proficiency in statistical analysis, quantitative analytics, forecasting/predictive analytics, multivariate testing, and optimization algorithms

Experience working on agile/scrum teams

Ability to work independently with little supervision

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including translating technical work for non-technical audiences

A burning desire to work in a challenging fast paced environment

Desired Skills

Expertise with automation and streaming data

Experience with NLP/NLU tools and frameworks (spaCy, BERT, ELMo, transfer learning)

Familiarity with big data frameworks (eg, HDFS, Spark) and AWS

Experience working in a product organization

Experience in or exposure to the nuances of a startup or other entrepreneurial environment
