The Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) seeks an innovative and academically oriented physiatrist with experience in healthcare leadership to oversee clinical care, research, and education as the Director of Rehabilitation and Extended Care (REC) Integrated Clinical Community (ICC).

The MVAHCS is 1a VA facility with substantial research and education programs and a close academic affiliation to the University of Minnesota. The Director of the REC ICC oversees the clinical and academic activities within several major clinical services including, but not limited to, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injuries and Disorders (SCID), Neurology, Community Living Center (CLC), Home and Community Care, Hospice and Palliative Care, and Caregiver Support. In addition, the Director of the REC ICC provides oversight for numerous highly specialized regional and national rehabilitation programs including a Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center and continuum of care, a SCID Center, a tertiary Pain Center and Headache Center of Excellence, and a Regional Amputation Center. The REC ICC also maintains 9 certification programs under the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The Director of the REC ICC provides direct oversight to two research centers including the Minneapolis Adaptive Design and Engineering (MADE) Program, a nationally renowned program for rehabilitation research, medical product development, and commercialization and the Geriatrics Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) with a focus on diseases of aging including dementia.

Responsibilities
This is a senior-management position reporting directly to the Chief of Staff. The successful candidate will lead a large and diverse staff comprised of physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers, psychologists, rehabilitation engineers, researchers, and administrative support personnel. The Director of the REC ICC will be responsible and accountable for the overall leadership, planning, operations, and performance of the ICC including:

  • Overseeing the provision of high-quality clinical care in all inpatient and outpatient programs.
  • Providing administrative leadership including personnel actions, equipment and space planning, budgetary decision making, continuous improvement and conducting labor management relations.
  • Developing, implementing, and overseeing graduate medical education. The REC ICC collaborates with the University of Minnesota to provide education for ACGME fellowships in Pain Medicine, Brain Injury Medicine, SCI Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. There are post-doctorate programs in neurologic Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Psychology as well as training programs across all rehabilitation therapy disciplines. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurology, and Medicine residents participate in rotations throughout the REC program catalog.
  • Sustaining and improving the REC ICC's research enterprise
  • Achieving strong collaboration with other ICCs within the facility as well as across the VA Integrated Service Network (VISN, a 5-state regional network of VA facilities).

  • Documented leadership and management skills with previous progressive administrative responsibility in the field of rehabilitation, broad health care system perspective and excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Maintains effective partnerships with the interdisciplinary REC ICC leadership team
  • Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Amount to be determined
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0730 - 4:00PM
