Job Summary:



The Director of Athletics (AD) will have administrative and
programmatic oversight for the CSUSB Athletics Department,
providing leadership, management, and strategic direction in
accordance to NCAA Division II and CCAA Conference rules. This
position is under the general direction of the Vice President for
Student Affairs (VPSA) and has regular contact with the
President.



Major duties and responsibilities:


  • Directs and administers the CSUSB Intercollegiate Athletics
    Department as part of a comprehensive effort to foster
    student-athletes' success in the classroom, competition and in
    personal development.

  • Propagates and refines the philosophy, guiding principles and
    strategic goals of the Athletics Department, which are essential to
    the department's success.

  • Builds competence in others through effective coaching,
    performance management and mentoring.

  • Ensures a community focused strategy to support CSUSB's mission
    by building effective strategic alliances internally and externally
    and initiates and develops strong working relationships with the
    community.

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates a comprehensive athletics
    program for men and women ensuring compliance with federal, state
    and NCAA Title IX/Gender equity mandates.

  • Works independently within functional policy and organizational
    guidelines.

  • Administratively oversees CSUSB's sport affiliations, including
    NCAA Division II and the CCAA Conference.

  • Responsible for the oversight and strategic management of
    highly competitive sport programs.

  • Assesses and evaluates the effectiveness and potential for each
    sport program, along with the regular review of the sport portfolio
    to recommend potential adjustments.

  • Chairs the Intercollegiate Athletic Advisory Committee (IAAC),
    working with this committee to promote campus-wide Athletics
    engagement.

  • Responsible for Athletics personnel management and staffing;
    provide leadership, guidance, and direction to professional and
    administrative staff members, along with faculty and student
    assistants.

  • Works in collaboration with University Advancement to support
    university fundraising efforts for Athletics including the
    participation in capital fundraising.

  • Helps build and cultivate donor relationships for strategic
    long-term goals that contribute to overarching fundraising goals,
    including donor driven events and programs.

  • Leads the Department in promotion, marketing, and revenue
    generation to support department operations, student-athlete
    scholarships, innovative programs, and facility development.

  • Oversees the development, maintenance, and maximum utilization
    of the department budget.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.




Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and
Experience:



  • Master's degree in business administration, higher education,
    athletics administration, or related field.

  • A minimum of seven years of demonstrated progressive management
    experience in athletics administration, preferably at a college or
    university, including sport management, sports information,
    facilities and operations, external relations, and
    fundraising.

  • Experience in direct supervision of coaches and collegiate
    athletics staff.




Required License/Certification:


  • Valid California driver's license.




Required Qualifications:


  • The incumbent is expected to possess a working knowledge of
    NCAA policies, rules, and compliance for a Division II
    institution.

  • The incumbent should have the ability to be sensitive and have
    the experience working with the needs of diverse student
    populations, building a strong sense of community, engagement, and
    school spirit.

  • The ability to think strategically in the development of
    collegiate athletics programming, including external relations and
    fundraising to increase visibility and partnerships.

  • Demonstrated commitment of leadership, human relations, and
    effective communication skills, working with various stakeholder
    groups across university divisions and community stakeholders.

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.

  • A demonstrated commitment to student-athlete success.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with various constituents, work
    autonomously, exercise sound judgment, and determine priorities in
    support of a championship NCAA Division II athletics program.

  • Build strong relationships with campus and community
    stakeholders in the interest and support of the athletics
    program.

  • Experience hiring and leading coaches who field competition and
    student athlete success.

  • Experience with effectively managing dynamic and complex
    budgets.

  • Ability to develop and execute an athletics vision and strategy
    that aligns with systemwide and institutional mission and
    goals.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of NCAA rules and
    regulations to maintain compliance and promote internal
    controls.

  • Demonstrated success in enhancing a collegiate athletic
    environment that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • A strong commitment to academic and athletic excellence to aide
    student-athletes in their academic and personal success.




Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working within an NCAA Division II institution.

  • Combination of business skills, emotional intelligence, and
    technical experience.

  • Experience supervising represented employees, administering,
    and adhering to collective bargaining agreements.

  • Evidence of a commitment to support various roles within a
    collegiate athletics program, with a commitment to the promotion of
    diversity, equity, and inclusion, in support of athletic and
    institutional goals.






Compensation and Benefits:



Anticipated Hiring Range: $13,750 - $15,000 per
month



Classification Salary Range: $6,250 - $20,063 per
month



The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that
includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the
California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and
vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Eligible employees are

Position Information:



Work status: Full-time, Exempt, At-Will



Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends
and evenings may be required.



This position will remain open until filled. Applications will be

This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve
at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a
probationary period and never receive permanent status.



This position is a "designated position" in the California State
University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate
accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest
forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices
Commission.

Background Check



Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal
records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a
conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the
background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is
