- Assist with the management for the secure and orderly operation of the State's 21 institutions housing over 15,500 inmates.
- Assist with the direction/management of a security workforce of more than 4500 staff as it relates to correctional practices.
- Conduct routine inspections of the state's prisons regarding operations, sanitation, safety, etc.
- Respond to requests/concerns from legislators, local officials, and citizens.
- Represent the agency as required.
- Coordinate inmate group activity, movement, security, transfers, and mass releases.
- Participate in policy development/review/implementation.
- Respond to emergency situations and actively participate/assist with inmate escape and apprehension.
- Confer, personally, by phone, and through correspondence with inmates and families concerning assignments, custody, disciplinaries, etc.
- Responsible for daily office management as it relates to review of all correspondence/responses.
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment. (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree;
- Five (5) Years of responsible administrative/management experience in a correctional environment;
- An Associate degree;
- Seven (7) years of responsible administrative/management experience in a correctional environment;
- A High School diploma.
- Nine (9) years responsible administrative/management experience in a correctional environment.
