We are building an independent research and business unit for genomic medicines, called Moderna Genomics (mGx) based in Technology Square, Cambridge, MA. mGx will be an innovation engine for the company focused on discovering and delivering the next generation of in vivo gene editing and nonviral gene therapies. mGx strives to be an industry leader in genomic medicines.

Moderna Genomics Gene editing and Innovation team seeks an enthusiastic, experienced, and motivated scientist to contribute to portfolio expansion initiatives. The candidate will contribute to discovery research to characterize novel gene editing tools against disease targets of interest in cell culture and preclinical models. This role will have the opportunity to work at the cutting-edge gene editing space and impact through pioneering foundational and experimental data leveraging a broad array of molecular and cellular biological approaches. He/she/they will be key a contributor to building the team and culture for this new initiative.

Here s What You ll Do:

  • Carry out biochemical and cell culture techniques to determine editing efficiency in bacterial and mammalian cells using gene editing techniques

  • Perform variety of assays spanning a range of molecular and cellular biological techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR and qPCR

  • Perform cell culture, including maintenance and manipulation of cell lines and primary cells

  • Maintain clear and detailed electronic notebook

  • Work well as part of a team

  • Present findings to larger team and key stakeholders

Here s What You ll Bring to the Table:

  • A bachelor s degree in Cell or Molecular Biology, Genetics or related disciplines with minimum 2 years of experience

  • Ability to learn quickly and carry out controlled experiments

  • Experience in mammalian cell culture

  • Hands-on experience in a variety of biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology techniques

  • Previous experience with gene-editing technology is highly desired

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
