Specialist - Internal Communications
Works under the general direction of the Director-Internal Communications to assist in maintaining an effective internal communications program for Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) and keeping employees informed of the District programs, issues and accomplishments.
Essential Job FunctionsBachelor's degree in Communications, Electronic and Digital Media Communication, Journalism or a related field; Plus, two (2) years of related professional experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).
Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor's Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master's Degree=6 years plus required years of experience.

- Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills
- Ability to identify and seek needed information / research skills
- Ability to translate complicated information into easy-to-understand messages for a broad audience
- Extensive design, editing, and technical knowledge to create information and communication technology-based products that entertain, educate, or inform the user
- Ability to work in team settings as well as manage tasks independently
- Ability to manage daily administrative tasks without losing sight of long-term goals and planning
- Fluency in the most current and effective use of a variety of communication platforms including social media and broadcast technology
- Experience utilizing various types of broadcasting equipment.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stress working environment
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment.
Unavoidable Hazards: The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.
Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
