The District School Nutrition Director will oversee all aspects of the District Child Nutrition Program (CNP) operation. The job functions include administrating, planning, directing, assessing, implementing, and evaluating the Nutrition Services program in order to meet the nutritional and educational needs of students as they relate to the CNP.


The CNP is to provide an environment that supports healthy food habits while maintaining program integrity and customer satisfaction.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities : *



Ensures CNP compliance with all local, state and federal laws, regulations, and policies. Review and evaluate monthly reports submitted to the Colorado Department of Education.


Provides technical assistance and training for nutrition services staff, school administrators, and other school support staff.


Implements and trains on management information systems that increase productivity and efficiency of the school food and nutrition operations.


Prepare, develop, monitor and analyze the department’s budget, school and program monthly operating reports and inventories to ensure a cost-effective operation.


Participate in multiple reviews / audits with various departments throughout the year. Responsible for scheduled reviews through the Office of School Nutrition.


Performs and directs with an overall nature that is committed to the goals and visions of the District.


Develop and maintain all accounts payable and purchase orders for Nutrition Services. Implements efficient management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation is maintained in accordance with local, state and federal laws and policies.


Responsible for hiring, supervising, training, assigning, promoting, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating Nutrition Services staff and office personnel.


Implements personnel policies and procedures for the CNP according to local, state, and federal regulations and laws.


Oversee purchasing, developing and monitoring specifications and distribution of all food, supplies and USDA Foods related to the food service operation.


Monitor and supervise all NS warehouse deliveries and inventories. Verifies all reimbursement claims, prepares documentation, and submits all required reports to Colorado Department of Education and other agencies.


Provide leadership to the Nutrition Services Department to ensure tasty and nutritious choices are offered to all customers in a safe, efficient and courteous manner.


Establish procedures to ensure that food is prepared and served in a safe and sanitary manner and monitor for compliance.


Responsible for the Free and Reduced and Community Eligibility Program (CEP) Programs, including the oversight of the application process and verification as specified by law.


Provide the community, schools and parents the appropriate free and reduced and CEP information, keeping the application system user friendly.


Establish quality standards for presentation and service of food. Implement a District-wide customer service driven philosophy that focuses on District and department values.


Develop a marketing plan to promote school meals to students, parents and community.


Communicates program information to encourage and secure support for the program from the Board of Education, administrators, faculty, students, parents and community.


Perform other duties as assigned.



Qualifications : *



Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Institutional Food Service Management, Food Science or Nutrition required. Registered Dietitian preferred.


Master’s degree preferred or equivalent educational experience (or combination). School Nutrition Specialist Credentialing from the School Nutrition Association within 6 months of hire required.


Five years of administrative and supervisory experience in school food service management.


Valid Colorado driver's license.


Able to meet district insurance requirements, to drive district vehicles.


Advanced oral and written communication, interpersonal, English language, problem solving, and customer service skills.


Advanced math, accounting, critical thinking, organizational, public relations, and supervisory / management skills.


Intermediate personal computer, keyboarding, and word processing skills.


Knowledge of food services and catering process, procedures, and guidelines.


Ability to manage confidentiality in all aspects of job.


Knowledge of and experience with commercial kitchen equipment preferred.


Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.


Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and multiple priorities.


Ability and willingness to carry a phone, be on call, and / or respond to calls 24 / 7.


Ability to promote and follow Board of Education, Superintendent, building, and department policies and procedures.


Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.


At least 8 hours of food safety training is required; not more than 5 years prior to their starting date or completed within 30 calendar days of the employee’s start date.


Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
