Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Counseling Psychology

We are seeking an outstanding candidate to join our faculty in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Massachusetts Boston beginning Fall 2023. The candidate will assume tenure-track assistant professorship in the Counseling and School Psychology Department, which houses two APA Accredited Programs in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology, MPCAC-Accredited Masters Programs in School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling, NASP-Accredited Masters and Ed.S. Programs in School Psychology, a graduate certificate program in Applied Behavior Analysis, and a B.A. in Sport Leadership and Administration.

We seek candidates with research foci and research programs in sociocultural concerns related to culture, race and/or ethnicity, which may include healthcare inequities; the impact of systemic and structural racism and discrimination on mental health; and the ways that racial and gender oppression intersect with health care access and equity, psychological supports and/or prevention and intervention efforts. Preferred applicants will have an outstanding record or promise of exceptional research productivity and extramural funding as well as demonstrated experience conducting research that has a racial justice focus that serves as a model toward anti-racism and facilitating systemic change. They will also demonstrate teaching and leadership experience, clinical experience counseling socioculturally diverse populations, and interest in collaborative research across counseling psychology academic areas. Qualifications for the position:

• A doctorate in Counseling Psychology or related field preferably from an APA Accredited Counseling Psychology Program and Master’s degree from an Accredited Counseling Program or closely related field.


• Strong potential for pursuing and securing extramural research funding


• Licensed or license eligible as a Licensed Psychologist/Health Services Provider in Massachusetts.


• Successful and engaged graduate teaching experience inclusive of social justice, critical pedagogy, and intersectional approaches to learning

This faculty position involves working with both the APA Accredited Counseling Psychology Program and the Master’s program in either Mental Health or School Counseling. Teaching assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department but will likely include clinical supervision of field experiences. The Counseling Psychology Program prepares professionals in a scientist-practitioner model and has been accredited since 2015. The Department of Counseling and School Psychology provides a dynamic environment for faculty and students to engage in nationally recognized research, especially in areas related to equity issues, systems-level change, LGBTQ health and wellness, social justice, transnational, human rights, and global perspectives.
