Your Specific Responsibilities:




  1. According to DHM 150-24, the FLWiSE System Guide, agency policies, and supervisor’s instructions provides nutrition services to WIC clients.


    1. Certifies/recertifies women, infants, and children to participate in the WIC Program.

    2. Provides nutrition assessment and counseling for WIC clients, and documents counseling in client record same day of service using the SOAP format. Develops and implements a nutrition care plan appropriate for each client.

    3. Selects, develops and evaluates client education materials, including preparing bulletin boards and conducting group instruction.

    4. Serves a minimum average of 12 clients per day.

    5. Spends a minimum of 20% of WIC time in nutrition education activities.

    6. Spends at least 6% percent of WIC time in breastfeeding education activities.

    7. Uses the FLWiSE system to facilitate services to WIC clients.



  2. Interviews WIC clients and potential WIC clients, and documents services in the computer according to DHM 150-24, the WIC FLWiSE System Guide and local procedures.

    1. Determines WIC income eligibility status.

    2. Obtains required demographic data.

    3. Completes WIC certification forms as appropriate.

    4. Informs clients of other health and social services.



  3. Issues WIC benefits and directly distributed formulas according to DHM 150-24, the FLWiSE System Guide and local procedures. Maintains necessary inventories and follows security procedures.

  4. Performs hemoglobin testing and height/length/weight measurements for WIC clients as needed. 

  5. Provides nutrition services for non-WIC clients.

    1. Provides nutrition assessment and diet counseling for clients referred by FL Department of Health in Sarasota County medical staff.

    2. Develops a nutrition care plan appropriate for each client, and uses the SOAP format to document plan in client medical records within 2 working days of counseling.

    3. Assists in coordinating non-WIC appointment schedule.

    4. Provides nutrition in-service to support staff as assigned.



  6. Follows Personnel Rules and regulations and supervisor’s instructions relating to attendance on the job, observation of lunch and break times, usage of sick leave, annual leave or personal holiday, and all other applicable tasks and behaviors.  Completes required documents that show the expenditure of work time and the tasks performed and submits to supervisor as requested.

  7. Attends professional meetings, conferences, and workshops, follows DOH rules and regulations, and performs other related duties as required according to agency policy and supervisor’s instructions.

  8. Conducts assigned WIC inventories.

  9. Conducts Quality Assurance reviews of WIC client records on a quarterly basis.

  10. Assists in training new nutrition staff and dietetic interns.



 



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:




  • Ability to use a computer, printer and calculator.

  • Ability to use program related computer software.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to perform anthropometric and hemoglobin tests for WIC clients using appropriate biohazard, safety and WIC procedures.



 



Qualifications:



Minimum –




  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in dietetics, clinical nutrition, nutritional science, community nutrition, food and nutrition, or public health nutrition

  • Registered Dietitian or Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in the State of Florida



Preferred –




  • Experience providing nutrition education to individuals

  • Experience providing breastfeeding education and support individuals

  • Experience as an employee of a WIC program
