Position Summary


The Department of Psychiatry is currently seeking a Communications and Training Coordinator for the Columbia-WHO Center for Global Mental Health. The Columbia-WHO Center for Global Mental Health is an interdisciplinary program advancing advocacy, research, and training initiatives to promote mental health and reduce the burden of mental illness worldwide.


In collaboration with the Center Director and faculty, the Coordinator will develop the capacities of the Global Mental Health Academy (GMHA) to provide and disseminate global training programs related to the ICD-11, including related online resources. This will include the development of a website infrastructure at gmhacademy.org to advance ICD-11 related training and implementation worldwide; managing relationships with professional societies, governments, health systems, and organizers of professional conferences to arrange customized training packages; arranging for continuing education credits; providing programmatic and administrative support for GMHA courses, including registration, communication with participants, communication with faculty, certificates of completion; and management of the technical aspects of online course sessions via Zoom webinar and other platforms.


The Communications and Training Coordinator will support communications and training activities for the GCP.Network, a multilingual portal for the World Health Organization's Global Clinical Practice Network (GCPN). The GCPN currently consists of over 17,000 mental health and primary care professionals from more than 160 countries. The website GCP.Network serves as the primary online platform for this professional constituency and offers a range of relevant resources, including trainings in the ICD-11 and scholarly publications. The Coordinator will work with web developers to maintain the functioning of GCP.Network and create online content for members of GCPN.


The Communications and Training Coordinator will be responsible for management of digital and print communications for internal and external audiences, traditional and digital marketing, social media strategy and event management on behalf of the Columbia-WHO Center for Global Mental Health. This will include the management of the Center’s website cugmhp.org, including developing, editing and curating content for the sites. The Coordinator’s responsibilities will also include managing relationships with web developers, ensuring regular functioning of websites, monitoring site traffic using Google Analytics, and sending out programmatic announcements and newsletters via automated email distribution software and Columbia dissemination mechanisms, as appropriate, including for monthly Columbia University Seminars in Global Mental Health.


Finally, the Coordinator will work closely with the Council for the Advancement of Global Mental Health Research to engage with philanthropists, manage and track donor engagement and contribution data, and curate outreach communications for Council members. The Coordinator will also be the primary point person managing Council-related events.

Minimum Qualifications


+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience required; 2 years related experience


Preferred Qualifications


+ Master's Degree with at least two years of related experience or equivalent in training and experience, including project management skills, writing and editorial experience, and evidence of facility with digital communications.


+ A degree in a related field (e.g., Psychology, Public Health, Social Work) is preferred.


+ Experience with the development, management and dissemination of training programs is not required but a plus.


+ Experience with conducting scholarly literature reviews and manuscript editing is not required but a plus.


+ Finally, some background in global mental health, including international work experience, is beneficial but not required.


Other Requirements


+ Must successfully complete all online systems training requirements.


+ Essential Functions: project management skills, strong writing and editorial experience, and evidence of facility with digital communications and platforms (website, social media, digital analytics etc.)


+ Applicant must have strong organizational and self-management skills; be detail-oriented; have the ability to take initiative and responsibility in meeting deadlines and making progress; and have strong spoken and written communication skills.


+ The applicant should have strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft suite, Google suite, Word Press and other website content Management systems, and the ability to learn new software and programs quickly.


+ The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with social networking sites in a professional context (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and be able to utilize differing approaches when communicating with various stakeholders.
