Job Summary
The Vice President (VP) of Commercial Portfolio will lead and manage Hope’s Credit Union and related Enterprise Corporation’s (“HOPE”) Commercial Loan Portfolio group across its five-state area, including Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama. The VP Commercial Portfolio position is a valued member of Hope’s management team with primary responsibilities for commercial loan portfolio management, portfolio risk management and special assets. HOPE’s Commercial Lending Department originates commercial real estate and business loans, and facilitates investments in community infrastructure including affordable housing, charter schools, and healthcare facilities. This position plays an intricate role in fulfilling Hope’s mission of strengthening communities, and improving lives, by ensuring high standards of conduct in monitoring, identifying, handling, and reporting on the commercial loan portfolio.

Primary and Essential Functions*

  • Implement processes and procedures to manage the commercial loan portfolio with consistent results in portfolio oversight, risk measurement and policy compliance.
  • Collaborate with loan servicing to maximize recoveries and minimize losses of distressed assets, including actively assisting in the negotiation and development of loan restructuring, turnarounds and workout strategies.
  • Works closely with attorneys and coordinate site visits for the non-performing assets.
  • Oversight of the Problem Loan Report Summaries for the special asset portfolio.
  • Strengthen the department team with leadership, mentoring, coaching, and training.
  • Partner closely with Commercial Loan Officers to ensure that borrower relationships are continued and communication is maintained.
  • Develop a solid understanding of the credit union’s software platform through training and use encouraging the team to implement best practices in this area.
  • Support all regulatory and third-party exams, audits and loan reviews with required reporting, communication, and presentation.
  • Oversee the completion of departmental reporting requirements for Annual Loan Reviews, Problem Loan Reports, and related committee/board reports.
  • Participate in the annual maintenance of the Credit Policy and implement related training to ensure departmental compliance.
  • Develop and nurture a departmental culture consistent with HOPE’s mission.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • 5 or more years of experience in commercial portfolio management, special assets, loan workouts, commercial loan underwriting, or related area.
  • Experience in commercial real estate and business loan types required.
  • Experience in Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, Charter School Lending, Healthy Food Lending, New Markets Tax Credits, or similar programs is a bonus.
  • Demonstrated strength in portfolio management, risk management, and problem loan administration.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of financial institution policies and operational procedures.
  • Involvement with regulatory examinations and NCUA.
