The School of Arts and Sciences seeks a full-time, face-to-face faculty member on the Boston campus with primary responsibility to provide instruction in undergraduate writing, literature-based humanities, and health humanities courses.

  • Teach a four-course load of undergraduate writing and humanities courses within the School of Arts and Sciences in each of the fall and spring semesters. These courses serve the First Year Writing Program, the Health Humanities major and minor, and the University general education core curriculum. Possible courses include, but are not limited to, introduction to academic reading and writing, expository writing, introduction to literary genres, and upper-level Humanities electives developed around the faculty member's area of expertise.
  • Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School of Arts and Sciences, texts and other readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
  • Provide engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of course concepts.
  • Use the University’s learning management system to post syllabi, assignments and other materials, student grades, and to communicate with students.
  • Advise and assist students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone, or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms.
  • Provide informal mentoring of School of Arts and Sciences majors and minors, as needed.
  • Support incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities.
  • Contribute to periodic reviews and revisions of writing program and humanities course offerings.
  • Attend and participate in monthly School and/or Department meetings.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Dean or Department Chair.
  • A master’s or doctoral degree (must be completed by September 2022) in Fine Arts; Writing, Rhetoric, or Composition Studies; English; or closely related field.
  • College teaching experience in relevant courses and evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Experience with student advising preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
