Dietetic Technician or Nutrition Associate
Dietary Solutions is seeking a Dietetic Technician or Nutrition Associate for a long term care facility. Dietary Solutions Inc. is a leading provider of nutrition care services in long- term care and assisted living facilities. Dietary Solutions provides orientation and training as well as extensive field support.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the coordination of excellent customer service and problem solving for the facility, patients/residents, and others as needed
  • Provides the supervising RDN with proof of continuing education and registration or licensure, if applicable, annually
  • Under the direction and supervision of the RDN:
  • Follows/implements procedures to meet all local, state, federal, and/or Joint Commission regulations as needed
  • Assists facilities to achieve success during local, state, federal and/or Joint Commission surveys
  • Assists in the coordination of communications for the food and nutrition services department
  • Provides excellent customer service
  • Assists in coordinating a system to identify residents at high nutrition risk and attends nutrition related meetings per facility policy
  • Assists in monitoring the services provided by the food and nutrition services department utilizing routine audits per facility policy
  • Assists in supporting nutrition related reimbursement and interventions (including PDPM) in coordination with the RDN, facility physician and IDT, including identification of malnutrition/malnutrition risk
  • Assists in providing in-service programs for the facility
  • Participates in the development and revising of policies and procedures for the facility
  • Implements documentation in the form of assessments, progress notes, care plans, MDS, CAA, and MNT interventions
  • Provides information and education to staff on an ongoing basis
  • Provides diet/nutrition education materials for patients/residents and is delivers diet education/counseling directly to the patient/resident
  • Suggests and/or implements quality assurance performance improvement programs to ensure quality service is provided
  • Reports events of concern and high-risk cases to the RDN for review and/or consultation
  • Understands and uses the facility’s abuse reporting for all kinds of abuse situations, both physical and verbal (i.e. patient/resident to patient/resident, staff to patient/resident)
  • Completes mandatory training and/or routine training per facility policy such as HIPAA, abuse, patient’s/resident’s rights, dementia, ethics and emergency preparedness
  • Monitors the services of the food and nutrition services department for provision of efficient and economic service to patients/residents; provides cost control data and information as requested
  • Remains current by reviewing and interpreting research and sharing information with other RDNs/NDTRs; uses evidence-based research for practice and data gathering for performance improvement; uses consensus and/or best practice standards where evidence is not available
  • Travels to and from assigned facilities, both short and longer distances based on client needs
  • Able to perform other duties as assigned and /or requested

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently

  • Understands and follows all local, state, federal, Joint Commission regulations as applicable to the facility
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (both verbal and written), listening, planning, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Engages with residents and facility staff to build positive relationships
  • Ability to support the RDN at every level of service provided
  • General knowledge of nutrition, food service, and applicable regulations and standards
  • Knowledge/skills to support the RDN with comprehensive nutrition assessment, development of individual care plans for patients/residents at nutrition risk, and appropriate nutrition interventions
  • Basic knowledge/skills of food safety and sanitation, purchasing, cost control, and menu design
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; ability to multitask and adapt easily in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to focus and meet deadlines despite potential distractions and interruptions
  • Basic computer skills (for facility work-including electronic medical records software as applicable, company communications via email, use of internet for research/information)
  • Able to communicate to the RDN, in a timely manner, patients/residents who require immediate assessment and intervention by the RDN
  • Able to consult with the RDN and requests direction on matters that are not within the scope of practice for the dietetic technician/nutrition associate.
  • The completion of a dietetic technician program by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that includes supervised practice and an associate’s degree at a U.S. regionally accredited college or university OR the completion of coursework in an ACEND-accredited didactic program or coordinated program in dietetics and has completed at least a bachelor’s degree at a U.S. regionally accredited college or university
  • Participates annually in continuing education to maintain current knowledge base and registration (if applicable; complies with educational standards as outlined by the state Board of Dietetics or other accrediting bodies as appropriate
  • Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration preferred

Schedule
Full-time, generally Monday through Friday onsite at assigned facilities during regular business hours in which key leadership staff of the facility is present. Hours may vary based on need.
