Job Function: Develop and deliver of high-quality decision-making data to business users and management to make sound financial or investment decisions. Address business process, reporting and advisory needs for assigned championships and ancillary activities. Follow policy directives of chief financial officer, controller, director of championships finance, and director of business performance management within championships business units.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve primary liaison to assigned championships and activities.
- Event support
- Collaborate with championship managers, hosts, venues, and/or local organizing committees to develop sound budgets, particularly for NCAA marquee championship events.
- Ensure financial terms accuracy within hosting agreements.
- Monitor financial performance, calculate and approve host settlements.
- Evaluate financial components of host bids and provide recommendations to championships managers and other stakeholders for site selection.
- Manage concessions agreements and reporting across all championships.
- Budget and analysis
- In collaboration with championships leaders, identify and document budget requests, as it relates to gender equity and current budgeting and planning principles.
- Ensure budget compliance with regards to expenditures and/or budget modifications.
- Provide financial analysis on revenue generation opportunities and cost avoidance/reduction for host agreements.
- Prepare financial analysis for requested adjustments to championships by working with requestor to understand and adjust underlying assumptions.
- Engage in forecasting efforts for travel inflation, per diem and other variables for incorporation in NCAA strategic plan and annual budget.
- Support championships finance and accounting.
- Lead efforts to ensure compliance with NCAA policy; state, city and local authorities, including tax implications and expense reimbursement programs at championship event sites.
- Lead concessions strategy and develop processes, policies and reporting templates to grow the revenue stream, while also making the process simple to implement, report and approve.
- Develop and present relevant data as it relates to site selection for both predetermined and non-predetermined sites.
- Serve as the point of contact for leaders within championships for fiscal matters including:
- Financial controls compliance.
- Appropriate accounting and reporting for transactions.
- Daily processing.
- Monthly and quarterly variance analysis and review.
- Learn, strategize, develop, and educate staff on tools and resources that enhance fiscal responsibility and accountability throughout Championships business units.
- Reconcile financials on a monthly basis.
- Assist in close activities.
- Collaborate with appropriate functional units of Administrative Services (Information Services, Internal Audit, etc.) to ensure appropriate management of financial policies and funds and support their business interaction with Championships.
- Assist with new system implementations or upgrades from a functional perspective.
- Special projects as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree preferred.
- Certified public accountant (CPA) license and/or master’s degree in business administration (MBA) preferred.
- Estimated Travel Required <10%
- Five to seven years of experience in accounting or financial analysis.
- Management experience is preferred.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing), good organizational skills, a working knowledge of automated accounting systems, and financial reporting experience.
- Must have advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and a track record of continuous improvement.
- Public accounting (audit) experience is strongly preferred.
- This position will be based out of the national office in Indianapolis, Indiana. Current work environment is hybrid; 3 days in the office and 2 days are remote.
- All national office staff are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. As a new hire, you will be required to be fully vaccinated within 8 weeks from acceptance of offer and you will be required to show proof of that vaccination. New hires may submit a request for a medical or religious exemption to the vaccine requirement 1-week post offer if they cannot comply with this mandate.
