Job Description:


Budget Title: Academic Advisor (SL-3)


Salary: $50,148 - $53,000


EOP at Binghamton University provides professional Academic Counselors who are interested in the personal growth, goal attainment and overall academic success of their students. The EOP Academic Counselor serves as an advisor, personal counselor and mentor throughout the duration of each student's enrollment at the University. Students are usually matched with an Academic Counselor based on their identified areas of interest and/or intended majors.


Responsibilities include:


  • Provide culturally responsive academic, personal and financial counseling and support to students enrolled in EOP at Binghamton.
  • Maintain a counseling relationship with EOP students and provide guidance in one-on-one and group settings, making appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Participate in the new student orientation program for EOP first-year and transfer students by presenting information and providing counseling and advisement.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive counseling records on all assigned students.
  • Assist the Director by providing information to complete state and local mandated reports.
  • Assist the Director with the oversight of the summer program/Binghamton Enrichment Program including all components, evaluation and assessment.
  • Participate in meetings involving all EOP Counselors related to issues pertinent to EOP students and ensuring best practices that reflect changing policies at Binghamton University, SUNY and higher-ed overall.
  • Participate on various Binghamton University committees that provide the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and staff.
  • Perform all aforementioned duties and responsibilities while conducting one's self in a manner that is beneficial to the mission of EOP.

Requirements:


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree with at least one year of relevant experience advising, counseling or other academic related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and experience working with cultural and ethnically diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and proven ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications including database management, presentation, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • A Master's degree preferably in the areas of Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, Academic Advising, Social Work or other related careers.
  • Two to three years of experience with diverse populations in a higher education environment with opportunity programs or related programs (EOP/HEOP, SEEK).
  • Experience in student programming, developing, coordinating, conducting workshops, events and/or programs.
  • Experience with use of technology and experience with Microsoft Suite, Banner, Slate, and/or other student management software.
