The Clinical Value and Outcomes team at AstraZeneca is focused on delivering patient access and driving practice change initiatives throughout the US healthcare system. We serve as the medical scientific lead for population-based healthcare decision makers to facilitate scientific exchange on disease state management and the value of AstraZeneca products. Clinical Account Director (Health Systems):


Within the Clinical Value and Outcomes Team (CVOT), the Clinical Account Director (CAD) will serve as a field Medical Lead for account-based opportunities within Integrated Delivery Networks/Health Systems by driving practice change solutions with Key Decision Makers (KDMs). The CAD will work closely with other Medical and Market Access field account teams to develop & implement integrated strategy and tactics to drive practice change within these accounts. Experience working in team-based environments across therapeutic areas is a key capability and prior experience in Respiratory, Immunology, Cardiovascular, Renal, and/or Metabolic disease is desirable.


This Clinical Account Director Role will be based in the Eastern part of the United States and is responsible for development and execution of the AstraZeneca clinical strategy in Geographically based Health Care systems, including Integrated Delivery Networks, Accountable Care Organizations, Provider Networks, Acute Care centers, etc..


Your Responsibilities & Accountabilities:


Serving as the Medical Lead within a defined geography will require strong collaboration with cross functional partners, including Market Access, Medical, Value Strategy and US Evidence teams to implement data-driven practice change decisions across focused disease areas within accounts.  


Strategic Account Management: Serve as a the Medical Lead to develop geography-specific clinical account strategy for Integrated Delivery Networks, Health Systems & Large Practice Groups to drive practice change solutions.



  • Leverage AZ digital tools and capabilities to conduct account profiling to identify opportunities to impact patient care based on guideline-directed approaches

  • Collaborate with Channel and Payer aligned team members to ensure alignment account planning and engagement strategies

  • Co-lead overall account planning across assigned geography with other field teams (Market Access and Medical) and internal partners to develop strategic clinical account plans that address identified health gaps in order to improve patient care


Account Execution: Maintain and foster C/D suite-level relationships with Key Decision Makers (KDMs) within geographic accounts to support data driven, practice changing guideline-concordant care.



  • Ensure timely delivery of clinical and economic value differentiation (disease or product-specific) education, including real-world evidence to fulfill account requests in collaboration with key internal partners (e.g. Payer Evidence, Value Strategy & Evidence)

  • Seek account-centric practice change solutions that address quality and outcome opportunities with population health KDMs

  • Assess and communicate learnings, including actionable insights and best practices, with field and HQ-based teams to influence resource development and medical strategy

  • Collaborate with Payer Evidence to provide field-based insights that influence future RWE studies

  • Ensure account-specific material needs are met through Medical Information

  • Ensure geographic patient impact measures are reported back to key internal stakeholders in a timely manner


Internal Representation of Clinical Value & Outcomes Team: Represent CVOT as the medical payer expert on cross-functional internal teams



  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners on the development of educational tools and resources communicated to customers to improve relevant therapeutic area understanding and access to AZ marketed and pipeline products

  • Assess and deliver customer inputs and insights to appropriate field and HQ-based teams (i.e., US and Global Brand Marketing teams, Core Medical teams, HEOR/Payer Evidence teams, and Market Access Strategy team) to inform future opportunities for resource development, market access strategy, and medical strategy.


Essential Requirements:



  • Advanced Clinical Degree (MD, PharmD, and or/Ph. D.).  Applicants with a Scientific Degree (e.g. BS Pharm, Master of Science, BSN, NP, PA, etc.) with extensive experience (e.g. clinical, market access, industry) may be considered.

  • 5-7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in medical affairs or clinical development or commensurate experience

  • 5-7 years of experience in the managed care setting

  • Strong understanding of US healthcare system, payers, reimbursement methods and integrated health systems

  • Experience in a field medical liaison role

  • Knowledge of clinical development/operations and working knowledge of FDA requirements

  • Expert technical depth in disease area and ability to develop expertise across multiple disease areas

  • Strong knowledge of health economics and capable of conducting value-based discussions with key decision-makers in various account settings


Preferred Requirements:



  • Additional training (residency or fellowship) Master’s Degree (e.g., MBA, MHA or MPH)

  • >5 years of experience working in a field medical liaison role position

  • >10 years of experience in a KDM setting

  • >10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in medical affairs, clinical development, or commensurate experience

  • Experience in working across therapeutic areas is a key capability and prior experience in Respiratory, Immunology, Cardiovascular, Renal, and/or Metabolic disease is desirable

  • Demonstrated flexibility in technical expertise across disease areas

  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)

  • Knowledge of information/technology systems
