Nature of Work
Produce graphical representation of specified design information using Revit into detailed working technical documents. Review engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Basic 3D modeling & drafting using Autodesk Revit, Fabrication CADMEP, and Autodesk AutoCAD. A VDC Modeler will be expected to model with manufacturer specific content.
- Size plumbing pipe and HVAC pipe; this position will be expected to learn the basic material and connection options for common mechanical pipe and plumbing pipe.
- Building/Manipulating Revit Families.
- Produce graphical representation of specified design information on drawings.
- Work with other team members to complete design, drawings and models as required.
- Work with both field and shop teams to facilitate project communication.
- Maintain training and continued education.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Basic operational knowledge of common mechanical and plumbing systems. A VDC Modeler will be familiar with the construction process from scope development to installation.
- Basic interface and model navigation skills in Autodesk Navisworks Manage; used for spatial coordination between trades.
- Revit experience Required.
- Microsoft Office Basics.
- Basic use of Bluebeam Revu: PDF document comparison, mark-up, and collaboration tool.
- Autodesk Navisworks Manage Basics.
- Autodesk BIM 360 Design Basics.
- Knowledge of Autodesk Point Layout.
- Basic familiarity with governing codes and standards as it relates to a project’s scope of work.
- Basic familiarity of installation practices.
Mechanical Pipe
- Understanding of P&ID’s and Flow Diagrams.
- The Fundamentals of HVAC System Piping.
- Chilled and Condenser Water Pipe Sizing.
- Condenser Water System Layout.
- Chilled Water System Layout.
- Basic Understanding of Steam and Condensate Systems.
Plumbing
- The Fundamentals of Plumbing System Types.
- Understanding of Riser and Flow Diagrams.
- Condensate Pipe Sizing & Layout.
- Gas Pipe Materials, Sizing, and Layout.
- Vent Pipe Sizing and Basic Layout.
- Domestic Water Pipe Materials, Sizing, & Layout.
- Fixture Unit Calculations.
- Waste Pipe Materials, Sizing, and Layout.
- Common Venting & Circuit Venting.
- Basic Plumbing Codes and Standards.
Education
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. One year vocational training from a two-year college or technical school preferred.
Experience
One to five years or more of related work experience required.
Scope
Responsible for own work only; expenses, and to a large extent results, are closely controlled by work procedures and standards.
Guidelines
Works according to guidelines, but may make changes with pre-determined guidelines.
Physical Demands
Physical demands for this position are light. Typically the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be walking, standing, bending or carrying of light items (10-25 pounds) such as papers, books, small parts, etc. No special physical demands are required to
perform the work.
Work Environment
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, residences, commercial vehicles, or outdoors, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc.
