ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
The Director of Academic Advising and New Student Orientation oversees the academic advising department, and the First Year Experience (FYE) program. The director is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and assessment of all New Student Orientation and FYE programming and sessions. Provides leadership in creating orientation programs reflective of best practices in preparing students for their college experience. The director also assesses the advising department for impact on the achievement of student learning, student development and retention. In performing these duties, this position provides outreach and services that support the attainment of the College's enrollment goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
III. RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervision of professional, hourly staff, faculty enrollment facilitators and student volunteers (Orientation Leaders) within the area including making recommendations for hire, evaluating, monitoring and training.
2. Ensures compliance and leads the efforts relating to academic advising for the purpose of establishing a case management structure in advising students.
3. Responsible for the development, organization, execution, and assessment of the New Student Orientation program for students both in-person and online.
4. Ensures academic advisors have appropriate access to technology tools necessary to engage in effective advising and in developing student academic plans.
5. Collaborates to create and implement retention and engagement programming for new students through the First Year Experience, academic advising, and other student success initiatives.
6. Integrates, in conjunction with student affairs personnel, appropriate approaches to optimize early alerts for the benefit of offering student support when needed.
7. Manages, develops, and implements marketing materials to maximize services. Oversees all communication regarding new student orientation to incoming students in partnership with Admissions and Marketing.
8. Builds effective working relationships within and across departments and reporting lines.
9. Recommends policy revision as needed to ensure ease in registration and student onboarding.
10. Represents the College in community and at meetings of governing agencies, colleges, and universities as appropriate.
11. Represents the College at statewide, regional and national associations for Academic Advising, New Student Orientation and First Year Experience.
12. Responsible for the oversight and allocation of the annual budget in areas of responsibility.
13. Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in education, higher education, or related field. Master's degree preferred
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of three to five years managerial experience in academic programs, advising, student services or related field. A minimum of three to five years professional work experience in the field of transitioning students into a collegiate atmosphere of college-level students, which includes working with individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of academic and student support programs and services. Knowledge of student registration processes. Implementing advising models and experience advising students.
SKILLS
Has demonstrated the ability to manage academic support programs for a diverse student population. Strong communication, public speaking, and collaboration skills are required.
