About the Job Under the general direction of the Executive Director, Recreation & Athletics, the incumbent will manage the overall internal operations of the athletic department and identifies operational objectives. The incumbent will manage, through subordinate staff, the compliance, eligibility, student athlete services, sports information and marketing programs and efforts for an active NAIA athletics program including acting as the Sport Supervisor for eight athletic teams. The incumbent will serve as the departmental and campus expert on NAIA eligibility and compliance matters including thedevelopment and oversight of departmental compliance programs. They will be heavily involved in the establishing, modifying, and implementing departmental policies and procedures that fit within the overall context of the campus. The Senior Associate Director of Athletics will represent the department in campus wide committees and serves as the departmental leader when the Director is not available. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Departmental Personnel Management Serves as a sport supervisor for eight NAIA team sports. Supervises Head Coaches for the team sports supervised. Provides mentorship and guidance for professional and student staff supervised. Develops and encourage professional development for departmental staff using in-house programming or recommending third party programs. Oversees volunteer paperwork and compliance. Athletic Internal Operations Oversight Oversees communication messaging to athletic coaches including facilitating coaches meetings and identifying campus resources to share. Reviews and approves all athletic competition schedules to review for conflicts, department/campus policy compliance and student athlete welfare. Reviews and approves all athletic practice schedules. Oversees master calendar for recreation & athletics including campus events. Projects, reviews, and approves program budget request for teams and oversight areas. Student Athlete Services Provides general oversight to all athletic training practices, policies, and procedures. Provides supervision and oversight for the Student Athlete Services Coordinator. Oversees the departments goals and vision surrounding providing an exceptional student athlete experience. Serves as the liaison to campus stakeholders including admissions, Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, Bright Success Center, Office of the Registrar, Students First Center, school advisers, Bobcat Advising Center, and is charged with facilitating relationships with other campus partners to support student athletes. Oversees all Athletic Grant-in-Aid and Athletic Scholarship disbursement. Develops and coordinates events, outreach opportunities and potential engagement activities in support of student athlete academic and life skills programs. Serves at the adviser to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Through subordinate staff, the incumbent: Oversees the student athlete academic support programs. Provides oversight for departmental Champions of Character program. Oversees the program managing student athlete academic progress. Provides guidance for student athletes community service program. Compliance Manages and administers a comprehensive Intercollegiate Athletics compliance program. Manages and implements programs to educate coaches, athletic department staff, students, university stakeholders, and boosters regarding NAIA rules. Maintain current working knowledge of California Pacific Conference and NAIA rules and regulations as they apply to intercollegiate athletics. Develops, implements and guides department wide compliance efforts for departmental, campus, system wide, state and federal rules. Serves as the departmental administrator for ARMS. Sports Information & Marketing Through subordinate staff, the incumbent: Provides supervision and oversight for the Sports Information & Marketing Coordinator position. Manages all athletic publications and website presence for the athletic department. Manages the graphic design student staff for the entire recreation & athletics department. Ensures departmental and campus brand standards are adhered to for all publications produced by the department. Provides oversight and guidance to the Sports Information & Marketing Coordinator and Game Operations Manager for in-game athletic promotions. One of two senior level staff with authority to approve designs for publication in print, digital or other means. Oversees selection and submission of regional and national student athlete awards/honors. Serves as the eligibility officer for intercollegiate athletics in collaborative effort with the Office of the Registrar and the Faculty Athletic Representative. Must have working knowledge of Cal Pac Conference and NAIA eligibility rules as they apply to intercollegiate athletics. Oversee the compiling and submission of required NAIA eligibility reports for the campus. Manage tracking system for Cal Pac Conference and NAIA rules violations and sanctions. Qualifications EDUCATION and REQUIREMENTS Bachelors degree in sports management, sports administration, or related area, and 3-5 years of directly related experience, or equivalent experience/training. Advanced knowledge of the operations of a diverse intercollegiate athletics program. Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
