Job Summary:

The primary role of the Respiratory Therapist will be to work collaboratively with the Director of Cardiopulmonary Wellness to provide outpatient rehabilitation and testing. In a lesser capacity, the Respiratory Therapist will support inpatient services as directed by the Hospitalist and serve as a resource for the facility related all respiratory care.

The Respiratory Therapist must be knowledgeable and proficient in treating respiratory disease in both the inpatient and outpatient setting using various types of media. They must work and communicate well with others including staff and patient populations from neonates to geriatrics. It is vital that they are flexible related to scheduling and self-motivated to accomplish projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Work collaboratively within the Cardiopulmonary and Wellness department to provide outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Respiratory Services that includes working with providers to establish and maintain an individualized treatment plan; providing patient education; managing oxygen per prescription and department policy and providing psychosocial support
  • Perform screening and diagnostic testing such as holter monitoring, exercise stress tests, six-minute walk tests, overnight oximetry, electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests; procedures such as sputum induction and treatments such as chest physiotherapy per provider order and in accordance with department policy and procedure
  • Scan and download holter monitors with the ability to recognize dysrhythmias
  • Assist with the maintenance schedule of Cardiopulmonary policies and procedures
  • Inspect, clean, test, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure the equipment is functioning safely and efficiently, ordering repairs when necessary
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation within the electronic health record and assist in updating documentation forms as needed
  • Participate in the coordination of patient care provided by the Cardiopulmonary and Wellness department
  • Develop and evaluate Cardiopulmonary programming alongside the Director of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Medical Director to ensure outstanding, quality patient care
  • Obtain necessary data for outcomes programming
  • Educate patients and their families about their conditions and instruct appropriate disease management techniques
  • Complete the mandatory annual in-service and utilize the facility learning system to complete required CEU’s

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support inpatient services as needed with the delivery of medicated aerosols, bronchopulmonary hygiene and hyperinflation techniques
  • Act as a clinical resource to staff as it pertains to the interpretation of ABG’s; titration of oxygen therapy; CPAP, BiPAP and ventilator settings; and general respiratory care
  • Provide respiratory services during scheduled c-sections as available
  • Provide emergency care, such as artificial respiration, external cardiac massage, or assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Set up and operate devices, such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, or aerosol generators, following specified parameters of treatment as needed
  • May be required to complete additional duties within scope of practice

Hours, Salary & Benefits:

  • Full-time (36-40 hours/week)
  • Schedule: 5 days/week with variable hours between 0700-1700, rare on-call after hours

Skills, Education, and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience
  • RRT
  • RCP preferred
  • BLS, ACLS
  • PALS, NRP certifications preferred
  • Up-to-date CEU requirements
  • Membership to AARC preferred
