The Highlights: In accordance with the mission of the Department of Athletics, assists in administering the progress and success of the intercollegiate sports performance program within the guidelines of the NCAA, the BIG EAST Conference and DePaul University. This includes all pre-season, in-season and post-season activities necessary to the physical development of student-athletes. Primarily works with the women's basketball program. Understands the unique demands and complexities faced by a high-profile, Division I collegiate basketball program. Utilizes experience and knowledge in working with student-athletes, coaches and staff of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
What You'll Do: Assist Director in the improvement of the physical development and performance of all assigned student athletes, with primary responsibility for the women's basketball program, through sport specific training programs. This includes the research, design, implementation, instruction and measurement/evaluation of training programs. Team with Sports Medicine Staff on injury prevention and rehabilitation strategies. Acts in supervisory capacity in the absence of the Director. Design, prepare, and implement individual and sport-specific strength, conditioning, and flexibility programs for both the in-season and off-season for assigned student-athletes, with an emphasis on women's basketball. Assist in the daily operations of the Weight Room. This includes conducting office hours, team and individual practice sessions; educating and enforcing safety procedures; ordering supplies and equipment; equipment care and maintenance; maintenance of records and reports. Continue education in the area of Sports Performance and by attending conferences and seminars and conducting research of new philosophies and protocols to benefit the well being of our student athletes. Continue in cultural education development in order to benefit the student-athletes with diverse cultures and backgrounds. Knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA rules, policies and procedures pertaining to the Sports Performance function of the department. Attend and participate in monthly NCAA rules compliance meetings. Supervises volunteer coaches/interns. What You'll Need: Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred. 1 - 3 years coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA Division I level or above . Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) required. CPR/AED, and First Aid Certified (either American Red Cross or American Heart Association) Must have the strength and ability to demonstrate and assist in proper lifting techniques. This includes moving heavy weights and lifting bars, plates and dumbbells. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated experience in working in a diverse urban and/or intercollegiate athletics environment. Dedication to serving the department, the University and the student-athletes with the highest level of leadership, initiative and integrity. Understanding of the unique demands and complexities faced by a high-profile, Division I collegiate basketball program. Position requires working early morning, evening, and weekend hours during school year. Must understand the unique demands and complexities faced by this highly visible team.
