Job Description:
Staff Educator ONA
Assists Director of Clinical & Professional Development (C&PD), Clinical Nurse Managers, and Chief Nursing Officer to assess, plan, implement, and evaluation for staff nurse development or educational needs. Educates to core nursing competencies for AD and BSN prepared staff.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Current working knowledge of clinical procedures and protocols
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills
- Role models professional practice and behavior
- Uses a variety of methods, appropriate to age and culture of learners, to communicate information and facilitate learning
- Prioritizes effectively and is able to address multiple responsibilities and requests for services
- Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
- Maintains expertise in electronic health record processes
- Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office and patient care equipment.
- Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
- Technically astute in the use of patient care equipment and supports staff in using new technology
- Demonstrates understanding and effective application of adult learning principles
- Exercises good judgment and demonstrates effective critical thinking skills
- Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in state of Oregon
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
- BSN preferred or willingness to obtain within 3 years
- Exhibits desire to sit for ANCC professional development credentialing
EXPERIENCE
- Experience teaching large and small groups preferred
- For Educator in general Acute Care role :
- 3 -5 years recent acute care experience preferred
- For Educator in Women's and Children's role :
- 3 -5 years recent Women's and Children's experience preferred
- For Educator in Critical Care role :
- 3 -5 years recent critical care experience preferred

Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements
- Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
- Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs
- Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision
- Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects
- Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair
- May be required to lift up to 75 pounds
- Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
- Requires significant use of personal computer
