Athletics Leader

Summary

Responsible for meeting the recreation and leisure needs of the citizens of Denton by leading athletic programs.

Essential Functions and Other Important Duties

Essential Functions:

• Prepares and assists with athletic facilities for various leagues, clinics, tournaments, special events and other athletic programs


• Cross Trained to work at the North Lakes Driving Range and Denton Tennis Center


• Serves as scorekeeper during league and tournament play and keeps accurate player participation logs during youth league play


• Collects player waivers and rosters during league play, keeps up with all league paperwork


• Monitors athletic facilities and enforces athletic facilities' rules


• Uses a cash register to sell admissions, souvenirs, and concessions for tournament related events and follows all cash handling procedures


• Assists with athletic administrative paperwork and registrations as needed


• Ability to remain calm with coaches, players and spectators, and make appropriate decisions during league play


• Must be able to legibly complete incident and accident reports, and be able to respond immediately in case of emergency


• May be called upon to officiate if referees do not show up or are late for games


• Responsible for cleaning gyms and/or fields after league play and keeping equipment organized


• May be asked to work other Parks and Recreation programs or events at the tennis center, driving range, recreation centers, or for youth/teen services


• Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance

Additional Duties:

• Performs other duties as assigned


• Develops alternate solutions to problems, evaluates courses of action and reaches appropriate decisions

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:

• At least 18 years of age


• Ability to read and write


• Ability to understand and follow instructions

• Ability to work morning shifts, or weeknights and weekends. Saturdays are mandatory during league seasons.

Preferences:

• Bilingual in Spanish and English


• Prior work experience in athletics and/or recreation


• Completion of one year of college with course work emphasizing sports management, kinesiology, recreation or similar field of study


• Prior youth sports coaching experience


• Cash handling experience


• Experience in monitoring a facility

Conditions of Employment:

• Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)


• Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check and social security number verification


• Must obtain American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification through a hands-on training (not online) within 30 days of employment, and keep current throughout employment


• Must pass a physical examination


• Must attend and successfully complete the City's Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment (if required to drive City vehicle or personal vehicle for City business)


• May be necessary to use personal transportation to run business errands


• Must be able to work various afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts
