This position is responsible for providing transportation of student athletes, Athletics staff, and/or baggage and equipment within the greater Portland area via the operation of University owned vehicle(s), usually via vehicles such as a large van or bus. Sometimes, there may be driving for transportation of student athletes, Athletics staff, and/or baggage/equipment outside the greater Portland area.

This is a part-time, non-exempt, hourly position without benefits. However, this position does accrue sick time consistent with Oregon state requirements. (Please note that eligibility for all University benefits is subject to applicable policies, practices, and requirements.)

Responsibilities:
Operate large van or other University owned vehicle(s), including large van or bus, to transport student athletes, Athletics staff, and/or baggage/equipment to locations that generally will be within the greater Portland area. Sometimes, there may be driving for transportation of student athletes, Athletics staff, and/or baggage/equipment outside the greater Portland area.

Conduct safety and maintenance inspections of vehicles. Report issues or problems.

Perform and log pre-and post-trip vehicle inspections.

Maintain cleanliness of vehicle interior.

Assist with the loading and unloading of baggage and equipment. Record shipment, receipt, and delivery information.

Adhere to applicable safety rules and all traffic laws and regulations.

Other duties as relevant to the duties of the position or as assigned by supervisor or designee.

Requirements:
Education and Experience

Required: ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language at level needed for the duties of the position. High school diploma is preferred.

Required: ability to operate a range of vehicles (large van, bus, or other vehicle).

Required: ability to load and unload baggage and equipment and use equipment like dollies to load and unload equipment.

Certifications and Licenses

Required: active Commercial Driver s License (CDL).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Attention and dedication to safety, including road/driving safety.

Effective organizational skills. Attention to detail.

Ability to read, understand, and carry out labels, directions and work orders.

Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficient to meet the requirements of the position.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions, generally in a sequence or with scheduled work activities occurring on a regular basis.

Ability to quickly learn and use new technologies and applications in depth at level and proficiency appropriate for the position s duties.

Comfortable working in a busy work environment.

Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions, including ability to identify when matters need to be brought to a supervisor s attention.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively handle highly-sensitive and confidential information with sound judgment, tact, and discretion.

Knowledge of safety and health practices relating to loading and unloading, delivery, and driving.

Physical Requirements

Frequently: ability to drive a vehicle, generally for amounts of time (30 minutes to an hour) required for locations in the greater Portland area, and sometimes for amounts of time (longer stretches) required for locations outside the greater Portland area.

As needed: use fine manipulation and grasp; write by hand; sort and arrange papers and materials; stand, kneel, bend, crouch, and walk; twist; lift, and carry objects that weigh in the range of a couple of pounds to 50 pounds without assistance; push or pull objects up to 75 pounds without assistance.

Frequently: ability to interact and communicate with members of the University and others as necessary.

Working Conditions

Work environment: most work will occur in the form of driving a vehicle such as a large van or bus; when driving, will be subject to different types of road and weather conditions, including sun, rain, snow, wind, and other types of inclement weather conditions.
