Job role

As a Global Category Manager within AstraZeneca s (AZ) Global Procurement function you will develop and deploy global category strategies and plans for the Legal area, working closely with senior stakeholders Legal is a key category within the Professional Services team, that enables the timely delivery and commercialization of AZ products, helping the business navigate obstacles that impede getting medicines to patients. The Legal Team are responsible for defending and enforcing our patents around the globe to protect our revenue streams and minimize potential financial exposure. With a total annual spend of circa $140M, you will be accountable for the overall area which includes; Legal Services including legal advice, litigation counsel, mergers & acquisitions, employment law, corporate law; and Patent & Trademark services.

You will have accountability for leading and developing the category strategy, in conjunction with key stakeholders in the global legal function. You will also need to collaborate with Procurement colleagues in each of the regions to understand demand and requirements from the local AZ Marketing Companies

Typical Responsibilities

  • Develops long term strategic plans for the entire spend area within AstraZeneca.
  • Ensure a fully coordinated and customer-aligned AZ-wide category plan.
  • Manages customer and supplier relationships to ensure that Category Strategies are highly aligned to current and future Business needs and that the supply base is capable of supporting these strategies.
  • Oversees implementation of category plan to ensure that the underpinning process improvement and procurement activities deliver the encouraged business value in accordance with the strategic plans.
  • Strategic relationship management (customer and supplier) - to ensure that Category Strategies are highly aligned to current and future Business need and that the supply base is capable of supporting these strategies.
  • Leading implementation of sustainability initiatives across Legal vendors.
  • Leading complex contractual and commercial negotiations.
  • Partners closely with the Legal Operations Team and Legal IT Business Partners, to enable the Legal data and digital strategy.
  • Works alongside the Global Procurement Services (GPS) team in Warsaw in advising on and driving procurement strategies to make decisions necessary to purchase products and services in congruence with organisational objectives

Crucial Experience

  • Degree level or equivalent qualifications
  • Significant experience in similar environment at management level
  • Project management, change management and people leadership skills
  • Good solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry
  • Technical expertise in at least one Procurement area, and competence in several others
  • Communication skills and ability to influence others
  • Comfortable working with data, to analyse trends, draw meaningful insights and present recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • Comfort with risk and ambiguous situations

Desirable

  • Experience of working within Indirect, preferably professional service categories.
