The Success Coach partners with students in thoughtful and creative ways that guide and motivate them to reach their full potential. This opportunity might be perfect for you if you are passionate about building relationships, helping students overcome obstacles and partnering with students to develop success plans each session, as they work towards degree attainment.
Through quality conversation and meaningful exploration, the coach will build and maintain relationships with a focus on goal setting, overcoming obstacles and achieving success, while adhering to established guidelines. The Success Coach builds working relationships with colleges and advising teams across ASU and ensures students have access to necessary resources and tools.
EdPlus is a unit of the ASU Enterprise focused on the design and scalable delivery of digital teaching and learning models to increase student success and reduce barriers to achievement in higher education. Essential Duties
- Engages in proactive outreach to empower students through positive reinforcement, building rapport, and establishing meaningful academic relationships.
Coaches students on developing a plan to achieve their academic and career goals.
Provides high-quality student-centered support using text, social media, email, phone and chat of a significant volume in a fast-paced environment.
Provides support for student accountability and success.
Works to build student knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs that support success.
Identifies areas for growth and opportunity and creates a personal development plan.
Works collaboratively and promotes the discovery process for problem solving.
Provides guidance and mentorship to new coaches.
Invests in students’ success and reflects commitment by answering phone calls, responding to voice or emails messages, texts or chat within the same business day, and staying beyond regular business hours if needed.
Works with internal and external partners in a positive and proactive manner.
Monitors student engagement via dashboards and implements interventions as prescribed.
Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years previous experience in one or more of the following: advising, student recruitment/retention or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in retention, graduation, and academic planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
Evidence of customer service skills and experience in helping, especially related to life or career coaching, counseling, or education.
Evidence of effective communication skills.
Experience in using presentation skills, in an open and persuasive style with the ability to communicate empathy.
Experience with online programs and students in a higher education environment.
Experience developing, facilitating and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with diverse populations.
Experience using Salesforce applications.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment with a variety of projects subject to quickly changing priorities.
Experience working with large populations of students, clients or teams.
Experience in using organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective time management and prioritization skills.
Experience with texting, social media and chat.
Experience in following guidelines, structure and established policy while working with others.
Working Environment
EdPlus at ASU is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The center houses a diverse business community that links technology, research, education, and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders in the knowledge economy.
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
