The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) and The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) have launched a nationwide search for the next Chief of Cardiology at Mount Sinai Morningside.

The individual who assumes this leadership position is responsible for the supervision of the administrative, clinical, research, educational disciplines in the department of Cardiology at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital.

The Cardiovascular Institute is one of the nation's pre-eminent programs, consistently ranking among the best for both clinical care and NIH-funded research. Current Chief Jagat Narula, M.D., Ph.D. F.A.C.C., a renowned leader in cardiology, has led with excellence during his time at Mount Sinai. His successor will be expected to build on this remarkable foundation.

The Chief of Cardiology will report to the Director of Mount Sinai Heart and Cardiovascular Institute and the Director of Clinical and Interventional Cardiology of the Health System, in a role that encompasses:

  • Clinical Responsibilities - Provide supervisory inpatients CCU role with the CCU attending to ensure the quality of care and adequate teaching of medicine residents and cardiology fellows and provide heart failure and preventive cardiology expertise for patient care;
  • Research Responsibilities - Assist faculty members with developing investigator-initiated research projects and application for possible clinical funding and work with fellows and junior faculty on various research initiatives;
  • Educational Responsibilities - Ensure excellent training and academic initiatives of general cardiology, interventional cardiology, EP and imaging fellows and take responsibility for education of house staff in internal medicine training program that receive cardiology education at Mount Sinai Morningside.

The MSHS is one of the largest, most diverse academic health systems in the United States. It is composed of eight member hospitals and many outpatient programs across the New York metropolitan area. The ISMMS, one of the nation's leading medical schools, is ranked in the country in NIH funding.

The Cardiovascular Institute sees nearly 104,000 patients annually. Over 200 cardiologists are on staff, and 74 cardiology fellows are in training. Within the Institute, the CVRC conducts basic, translational and clinical investigations, with interests ranging from cardiovascular systems biology to cell biology to gene therapy, as well as to cardiac disease detection, prevention and treatment modalities, and resolving health disparities in the U.S. and globally.

The ideal candidate for Chief of Cardiology at Mount Sinai Morningside will be a dynamic academic cardiologist who is a distinguished national and international leader in his or her field of expertise. The candidate must have a proven track record in clinical care, research, education and administration. Applicants must be board-certified in one or more cardiac subspecialties, and must hold or be eligible for a New York State medical license.

Mount Sinai offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. The salary offered for this role will be in the range of $600,000 to $1,000,000 (not including bonuses / Incentive compensation or benefits)
